APTA Pennsylvania 2024 Call for Nominations
The APTA Pennsylvania Nominating Committee announces that elections will be held this fall for terms that begin in January 2025 and run through December 2027. Nominations are now open for several open positions. Fall elections include nominations for Chapter, District and SIG Elections.

Vice President
Term: 3 years
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Serve as a member of the Chapter Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
- Officiate in the absence of the President or President-Elect at Chapter meetings, Chapter Board of Directors’ meetings, and Executive Committee meetings.
- Carry out any duties specified and/or requested by the Chapter Board of Directors and/or the President. This may include serving as an “ex-officio” member of Chapter Committees or Chair of ad hoc committees.
- Develop policies for the APTA Pennsylvania Policy and Procedure Manual for any newly formed standing committee or any ad hoc committees.
- Serve as the Board liaison to the Conference and Continuing Education Committee (CCEC). As such, coordinate all educational programs sponsored by the Chapter in consultation with the Conference and Continuing Education Committee and others as indicated.
- Succeed to the Presidency for the unexpired portion of the term of the President in the event that a vacancy should occur and there is no President-Elect in office.
- Appoint all Committee members with input from District Directors and Committee Chairs. Obtain approval of these appointments from the Board of Directors. Review Committee Chair job descriptions and Committee policies in the APTA Pennsylvania Policy and Procedure Manual annually. All such changes are subject to the approval of the Chapter Board of Directors.
- Annually (by Oct. 1) and prior to the end of the term of office, review and revise this section of the APTA Pennsylvania Policy and Procedure Manual as indicated. All such changes are subject to the approval of the Chapter Board of Directors.
- Keep the membership informed of Chapter/Association activities via newsletters or other APTA Pennsylvania communication as necessary.
- Submit an annual budget for his/her office by the Fall meeting as part of the Chapter’s budgeting process and in the format required by the Treasurer.
- Make a report in writing prior to each meeting of the Board of Directors, which occur in January, April, and October and for the Executive Committee meeting in August.
- Review charges to each committee with the appropriate committee chair.
- Orient the successor to the contents of the Vice President’s files and to the duties of the office.
- Conduct orientation to Chapter policies and procedures for all new Board members and committee chairs.
- Assist the Secretary and the Executive Director in review of the APTA Pennsylvania Policy and Procedure Manual after each Board of Directors meeting.
- As an Executive Committee member, support any legal action of the Chapter deemed appropriate by the President.
- Respond to any and all charges from the Board of Directors.
- Represent the APTA Pennsylvania Board of Directors at the APTA Federal Affairs Forum. As such, attend the yearly meeting and be the BoD representative to all activities coordinated by the Federal Affairs committee.
- Annually review the Vice President section of the APTA Pennsylvania Policy and Procedure Manual. Provide changes to the Secretary by Oct. 1 of each year.
- Serve as board liaison to the Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy. As such, coordinate a APTA Pennsylvania presence at the meetings, assure the PA SBPT is aware of APTA Pennsylvania members’ issues and concerns, and keep the APTA Pennsylvania Board of Directors informed regarding any relevant actions of the SBPT.

Chapter Nominating Committee Member
Term: 3 years
Reports to: Nominating Committee Chair
I. Composition
- The Nominating Committee is composed of 3 members who are elected by the membership.
- The senior member chairs the committee.
II. Purpose
- To ensure robust recruitment of nominees for all offices and valid nomination and election processes
III. Duties and responsibilities
- Provide a slate of at least two (2) eligible candidates for each chapter office, if possible, from those who consent to serve.
- Work with Chapter Office and follow the election processes as described in the “Nominating Committee On-boarding Manual” to insure valid election processes.
- Reference source documents (APTA and APTA Pennsylvania Bylaws, District and SIG Rules of Order) and consult with Chapter leaders as needed for novel situations.
- Provide assistance to district nominating committees and SIGs to insure candidate slates for district, delegate and SIG positions.
- Assist the PTA SIG in preparing a slate of candidates for the PTA Caucus Representative to the representative body of the National Assembly of Physical Therapist Assistants.
- Present the prepared slate of officers during the Chapter Annual Meeting, and accept nominations from the floor, if any.
IV. Duties and responsibilities of the Chair
- Schedule and conduct all Committee meetings.
- Orient newer committee members to committee processes and ensure their involvement in all nominating committee activities.
- Prepare and post minutes of each meeting on BaseCamp.
- Make a report in writing prior to each meeting of the Board of Directors, which occur in January, April, August and October and for the Executive Committee meeting in August.
- Attend at minimum, the April and October Board of Directors meetings and additional meetings as requested by the President and/or Board of Directors, including monthly virtual working group meetings.
- Maintain an accurate calendar of elections and post this and other documents on Base Camp for easy reference by other leaders and committee members.
- Review draft budget annually and provide feedback to Chapter Treasurer.
- Review the job description of the Nominating Committee annually and provide revisions to the Chapter Secretary by Oct. 1.
- Execute all charges to the Committee from the Board of Directors.
- Orient successor to the duties of the office.

District Chair (All Districts)
Term: 3 years
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Serve as the member of the Chapter Board of Directors as the official representative of the district or appoint a representative in his/her absence according to District Rules of Order.
- Serve as advisor to the Chapter’s officers and members.
- Serve as liaison among the APTA, the Chapter and the component districts. This includes the communication of information from the district to the Chapter, from the Chapter to the districts and from the APTA to the districts throughout the year.
- Make a report in writing prior to each meeting of the Board of Directors, which occur in January, April, August and October and for the Executive Committee meeting in August.
- Maintain regular communication with the Chapter President.
- Orient successor to the duties of the District Director. Provide all district files, APTA Pennsylvania Bylaws, the APTA Pennsylvania Policy and Procedure Manual and the District Rules of Order to the successor.
- Provide a list of all scheduled district meetings and events to the Chapter Office.
- Ensure submission of materials from district meetings to the Chapter Office within 60 days after the meeting.
- Forward complaints of Physical Therapy Practice Act violations to the Chapter Office.
- Educate district members regarding the purposes of supporting APTA Pennsylvania advocacy initiatives and promote membership and attendee participation.
- Organize and run one fundraiser each year to support APTA Pennsylvania legislative advocacy efforts. Submit all contributions to the Chapter Office or PAPTPAC as appropriate.
- Identify members to serve on the District Executive Committee according to the District Rules of Order and serve in the role of Chair.
- Submit for Board approval the names of district members for appointment to Chapter committees.
- Submit content for newsletter articles to the Chapter when requested.
- Respond to any and all charges from the Board of Directors.
- Ensure that any open District committee positions are filled within 60 days of their vacancy.
- Work in concert with the District Membership Committee Chairs to ensure focus on the need for membership recruitment and retention.
- Consistent with the District Rules of Order and in consultation with the District Executive Committee, create and appoint individuals to District Committees and work groups to conduct the business of the district.
- Ensure that all district continuing education is offered in accordance with APTA Pennsylvania policies and procedures.
- Approve and submit the district annual budget to the APTA Pennsylvania Treasurer by July 1 annually.

District Vice Chair (All Districts)
Term: 3 years
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Vice Chair shall:
- Assume the duties of the Chair if he/she is unable to fulfill his/her duties.
- Maintain the DISTRICT Rules of Order so that they are in compliance with the CHAPTER bylaws.
- Coordinate the location of DISTRICT meetings and communicate DISTRICT meeting details to the CHAPTER office.
- Ensure a smooth knowledge transition to the next elected Vice Chair.

District Secretary (All Districts)
Term: 3 years
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Secretary shall:
- Take and submit to the CHAPTER office the minutes and/or meeting summary of all DISTRICT meetings;
- Carry on the official correspondence of the DISTRICT;
- Notify members and CHAPTER of DISTRICT meetings and events. Meeting notices shall include the date, time and location of each meeting;
- Keep an accurate record of meeting and educational program attendance. This may be in the form of a sign in/out sheet or other documented evidence needed;
- Ensure a smooth knowledge transition to the next elected Secretary

District Treasurer (All Districts)
Term: 3 years
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Treasurer shall:
- Ensure that the DISTRICT records are kept and retained in accordance with CHAPTER policies.
- Prepare and submit an annual budget in accordance with CHAPTER policies.
- Approve DISTRICT expenses consistent with the DISTRICT budget.
- Ensure a smooth knowledge transition to the next elected Treasurer.

Nominating Committee Members (All Districts)
Term: 2 years
One member shall be elected each year for a two-year term and may be elected to one additional two-year term. The senior member shall chair the committee. The newly elected member shall take office on January 1 following his/her election.
The Nominating Committee shall, in addition to the duties outlined in the CHAPTER bylaws, policies and procedures:
- Prepare a list of nominees for each DISTRICT office from those consenting to serve, attempting to secure at least two candidates for each open position.
- Promote ASSOCIATION, CHAPTER and DISTRICT leadership opportunities and professional development activities to the DISTRICT.
- Communicate with the CHAPTER Nominating Committee on a regular basis

SIG Chair (All SIGs)
Term: 3 years
Qualifications of the officers: only SIG active members in good standing shall be eligible to serve as SIG officers.
Duties & Responsibilities of the Chair:
- Coordinate the efforts of the SIG.
- Make a report in writing prior to each meeting of the Board of Directors, which occur in January, April, August and October and for the Executive Committee meeting in August.
- Annually review and revise the job description and Chapter policies related to the SIGs and forward any requested revisions to the Chapter Secretary (by Oct 1), updating the SIG Onboarding Manual once the changes have been approved by the BOD.
- Submit newsletter articles when requested.
- Notify the Chapter Executive Director of any SIG award recipients prior to Annual Conference.
- Coordinate with the Executive Director the purchase of awards.
- Present the awards to recipients at the Annual Conference, at the time determined by the Conference schedule.
- Maintain a listing of all award recipients.
- Respond to any and all charges from the Board of Directors.
- Orient a successor to the Chair’s position and pass on to him/her all committee files.
- Execute all current charges to the Committee from the Practice and Research Committee and Board of Directors.
- Attend the Board of Directors meetings in January, April and October as a non-voting member.
- Arrange and conduct SIG business and educational meetings, including at least one annual meeting, in person at Annual conference or via webinar.
- Attend monthly GoTo meetings of the SIG Work Group. Each Chair will record minutes on a rotating basis.
- Communicate as needed with the Chapter Secretary.
- Via the SIG Work Group Coordinator, provide SIG meeting and continuing education session information to the Conference and Continuing Education Committee Chair, Executive Director, and the Chapter Secretary by the date determined annually by the Conference and Continuing Education Committee Chair.
- Identify liaisons to the APTA Pennsylvania Payment Committee and the PPAC to assist with issues as needed.

SIG Vice Chair (All SIGs)
Term: 3 years
Qualifications of the officers: only SIG active members in good standing shall be eligible to serve as SIG officers.
Duties & Responsibilities of SIG Officers:
- Call and preside at the meetings of the SIG.
- Conduct business between annual and special business meetings.
- Recommend to the membership of the SIG appointment and creation of special and advisory committees.
- Submit a written report for the Board meetings – quarterly or as requested by the Board of Directors of APTA Pennsylvania.
- Represent the SIG at the Board of Directors meetings as directed by the Board.
- Shall be responsible for planning and conducting all educational programs in conjunction with the Conference and Continuing Education Committee of the Chapter.
- Maintain a record of membership of the section in conjunction with the Chapter office staff.
- Maintain and record all official actions and decisions of the SIG.
- Serve as a historian of the SIG.
- Receive and dispense SIG monies as prescribed by the Chapter Bylaws.
- Develop with the assistance of the Chapter Treasurer an annual budget.
- Include a financial report to the Chapter Treasurer upon request.
- Carry out the mandates and policies of the SIG as determined by the SIG members.
- Have power to authorize vote by either mail or electronic means of the membership as prescribed in the bylaws.
- Contact the APTA Pennsylvania Nominating Committee Chair one year prior to anticipated election of new officers.
- Utilize Chapter Nominating Committee members in the nomination process and the preparation of the slate of candidates for office.
- After notification from the chapter office of newly elected officers, contact web mater to post election results on web page.
