Training and Treating Runners of Different Levels
Learning Objective:

  1. Demonstrate an improved understanding of basic training principles as it pertains to tissue regeneration, exercise progression and potential for tissue breakdown.
  2. Enhanced comprehension of load management principles including workload application.
  3. Develop an understanding of the differences in injury presentation and prognosis for runners of different levels.
  4. A sound appreciation for the influence of different running injury factors and the influence they have on the different levels of runners.
  5. Improve ability to tailor treatment strategies to runners of different levels.
  6. Progress understanding of training methods, biopsychosocial influences, and common errors that each different level of runner may experience.

Movement System Evaluation and Treatment of the Hip Joint

Learning Objectives:

  1. Develop an efficient system of functional performance testing to evaluate impairments of the hip leading movement system dysfunction of the trunk and lower extremity.
  2. Create a classification-based treatment approach that is supported by current evidence in kinematic and neuromuscular relationships of the hip joint and lower kinetic chain.
  3. Evaluate the causes of aberrant movement patterns during functional performance tests for the lower extremity that may contribute to hip dysfunction.
  4. Formulate evidence-based treatment interventions based on the findings of functional performance testing of the lower extremity.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Healthcare

Course Objectives: Training in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion leads to better understanding of unique treatment dynamics which leads to improved clinical outcomes;

  1. Understand how cultural competence improves better quality of care
  2. Create a culture where individuals with diverse backgrounds feel empowered to achieve success
  3. Communicate effectively with patients and families across a broad range of cultural backgrounds.
  4. Recognize the impact of social determinants on health disparities in access to quality of care

Wheelchair Seating/Mobility, Documentation, and Cardiopulmonary Impact of Seating/Positioning

Wheelchair Technology

  1. To understand the features of ultralight weight manual wheelchairs (K0005) and their role in ergonomic fit and function (e.g., efficient propulsion and prevention of repetitive strain)
  2. To understand the features and seat functions of power wheelchairs (Group 3) and their role in ergonomic fit and function

Wheelchair service delivery process

  1. To understand structure and content of effective letters of medical necessity for assistive technology
  2. To translate knowledge of effective letters of medical necessity to cases
  3. To increase awareness of technology available to enhance the wheelchair service delivery process

Impact of wheelchair seating and positioning on cardiopulmonary function:

  1. Discuss impairments associated with people with neurological conditions and potential secondary conditions that can impact morbidity and mortality
  2. Review five cardiopulmonary outcome measures and ways that they can support clinical decision-making in wheelchair prescription
  3. Examine the impact of wheelchair positioning and seating cardiopulmonary function
  4. Examine the impact of physical activity on cardiopulmonary function and options for improving cardiopulmonary fitness in wheelchair users
