Title:My Patient has a PMH Including COVID-19, What Do I Need to Know? - PT Implications in Post-Acute Settings presented by Janette Scardillo, PT, DPT, Dana R. Maida, PT, DPT and Nicholas Rodio, PT, DPT

Course Description:
A PT in the outpatient setting has an examination on their schedule for someone after a rotator cuff strain. After looking at the intake form, the therapist notes a history of COVID-19. Does this matter? Should the therapist be doing anything different because of the diagnosis?

As patients are recovering from COVID-19, many are reporting prolonged symptoms associated with the cardiopulmonary systems in addition to poor endurance and exercise capacity. This may impact many interventions that a physical therapist may engage a patient in. PTs and PTAs need to be aware of possible complications and prolonged issues caused by the virus that may have an impact on treatment interventions for their patients. This hour session will discuss the pathology of COVID-19 and possible effects on multiple body systems. In addition, speakers will offer techniques for examination and treatment interventions with a patient population who has recovered from COVID-19.

Speakers will not be addressing current treatments with those in the acute care setting, or those immediately post recovery from COVID-19, but instead will be discussing it as a secondary diagnosis that a PT must take into consideration when treating patients in a post-COVID world.
