Course Description:
This course will review coronaviruses focusing specifically on 2019 SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). Identification and discussion of COVID-19 acute medical management and rehabilitation practice trends in the hospital setting. A case study following a patient diagnosed with severe COVID-19 in April 2020 will be referenced and discussed throughout this presentation.

Course Objectives: Identify and compare three coronaviruses: review COVID-19 disease process, symptoms, and medical management. Identify evolving COVID-19 practices related to therapeutic intervention. Discuss and analyze COVID-19 patient case study, including therapist role in acute care. Provide COVID-19 resources for patients post-acute care hospitalization.

More About the Speaker:

Megan Drollinger, OTR/L, BCPR, CSRS, is an occupational therapist with Good Shepherd Penn Partners in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated with an MOT degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and since then, has worked in a variety of settings, including acute care and acute rehabilitation. Megan has earned a Board Certification in Physical Rehabilitation from AOTA and a Certified Stroke Rehabilitation certificate from the National Stroke Association.

Carla D'Urso, PT, DPT, received her dual bachelor’s in Health Sciences & Biology from Duquesne University in 2014 and a doctorate in Physical Therapy from Duquesne University in 2016. She currently works at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, and loves treating oncology and cardiopulmonary populations. Carla contributes her expertise as a clinical evaluator at Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine and as an auxiliary educator for DPT programs at Drexel University and Alvernia University.
