Course Description: In physical therapy, it is essential to recognize the importance of oxygen consumption and utilization within the body when developing any physical therapy plan of care, regardless of patient population and practice setting. This presentation will review pulmonary interventions for patients with pulmonary disease and patients across all physical therapy practice settings. Emphasis will be placed on the interworkings of the pulmonary system that optimizes oxygen intake and delivery. We will also consider how a physical therapist can implement various treatment strategies to train, re-train or maximize that system in the most debilitated patient in an ICU setting to the athlete returning to the sport in the outpatient setting.
