Topics will include key principles outlined in the Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Practice Act 110 and accompanying Chapter 40 regulations. It will also introduce pertinent ethical considerations outlined in the newly adopted Code of Ethics for the Physical Therapy Profession. Examples include discussion of the distinction between physician prescriptions and referrals; referral timelines for providing physical therapy in school settings; a comprehensive presentation of direct access implications including the process and requirements for obtaining direct access certification; review of direct access regulations related to provision of PT services in school settings; the role and legal supervision requirements for physical therapists assistants practicing in school-based settings with an emphasis on physical therapist supervisory guidelines; and ethical considerations for physical therapy PT and PTA practitioners.
