Title: Acute Care SIG - To Move or Not to Move: Case Reflections of Patients with Advanced Mechanical Circulatory Devices

Speakers: Casey Herrmann, PT, DPT, CCS, CLT,  Lindsay Fluehr, PT, DPT,  & Cassandra Deitrick, PT, DPT

Course Description: Mobilizing patients that are critically ill can be difficult for acute care therapists of any level. Recent evidence-based practice highlights the importance of early mobility in intensive care units, including patients with advanced mechanical circulatory devices. The purpose of this webinar is to provide basic knowledge on mechanical circulatory devices, such as the Impella, veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO), and femoral intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), as well as to provide information on safe mobilization practice for acute care therapists. In addition, the presentation will provide mobility protocols for patients with an Impella, femoral IABP, or on VV-ECMO that are followed at large academic medical institutions.
